Unfortunately for most clients and far too many agencies it looks nothing like that. Clients have little idea of what the term means, and thus need an agency or consultant to tell them and guide them to a strategy. Sadly far too many agencies grabbed “content marketing” as a scalable task they could charge for when cheap and nasty link building got nuked, and they don’t understand it either. Far too much scattergun tactics with no cohesion, no planning, and no end result. And don’t get me started about the appalling quality of much of the “writing” that gets done under this banner.

I’ll bookmark this and point confused clients at it as one of the clearer indications of what they should be doing.

Re: Boring Questions, Boring Podcast: How the Best Interviewers Stand Out

Really appreciate your work Ryan
It gives me insights of podcasting and the issues related to this.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Re: I studied 21 world-class content marketers for over a year. All 3 offer amazing depth in their articles, tons of actionable strategies and plenty of statistics. Their content has made a huge difference in the growth of my website and business.

Excited to dig into these other writers!

Re: Starting a Podcast: 7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Published My First Episode

@Jake, congrats on launching your podcast. It's educational, but also relatable in the way you share your experiences and lessons learned. This breakdown of 7 things you wish you knew comes at a great time as I am releasing my first episode this Tuesday and rather nervous. I love podcasts and am excited, but can relate in the fact that you say "things will go wrong, but learning is the ultimate key..." Just wanted to say thanks for a great article.

Thanks,
Jake Widmann

Re: Starting a Podcast: 7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Published My First Episode

I'm not sure what you mean? I know you said, "The hardest part of the Sunday Seven is choosing which pieces of content to share." I love how you tie everything together in your emails. It works! I think the reason I started listening to you is because you have the ability to make things easy, tell a good story, and keep it relevant. The stories flow, I get motivated, and I continuously learn. You refine the complexities and I love that! Please keep doing what you are doing, it's appreciated.

Re: I studied 21 world-class content marketers for over a year. Some others I follow and study include Pat Flynn, Alex & Mimi Ikonn, Amy Porterfield, David Siteman Garland, Feldman is a rockstar, Ryan H. and a guy named Mike Locke who has shown me that keeping it simple is a GREAT strategy (only VLOGs and only on his specific niche area).

Re: I studied 21 world-class content marketers for over a year.
